Cool clay house for hamsters and other small rodents: House with a removable roof. Our Rodipet® EasyClean Ceramic House for pet rodents is made from durable quality ceramic. It was designed on the model of Mother Nature. Observations made during Rodenti® Expeditions in 2007, 2009 and 2010 to the northern Syrian agricultural steppe were essential in developing this species-appropriate high quality product.
Rodenti® Expedition to the home of Syrian hamsters. The choices of both colour and shape of this product are based on the actual burrows of wild Syrian hamsters. The house's round shape also works well for other species of pet rodents. The house works particularly well when combined with a Ceramic Burrow and a connecting tube. Such a setup allows the inhabitant(s) to create separate bed- and storage rooms betweeon which they can move under cover of the joining tube. Using the Ceramic Tube with Side Entrance, they can even slip in through a top-facing entry hole, just as they would do in the wild.
This video shows the Rodipet® EasyClean rodent house in combination with a ceramic tube and a second ceramic house. But even when used as a stand-alone hideaway it makes for a cozy home in which your pet rodent can feel perfectly safe - and for us humans it is very handy for checking on our pet and even when it comes to cleaning time.
This rodent-appropriate rodent burrow can be hidden in up to 14 cm of bedding while still being accessible for a nest check.
For animals with a strong urge to gnaw: Rodipet® EasyClean TERRA Ceramic Houses are just perfect for pet rodents with a particularly strong urge to chew, such as gerbils or degus: They are made from a very hard and tough type of clay and the thick walls make this product even sturdier.
Nail care par excellence: Our pets' wild cousins run over sticks and stones and dig tunnels, which naturally shortens their nails. In human care, this natural process usually happens at a much smaller scale, if at all.
The unglazed surfaces of Rodipet® EasyClean Ceramic items are great substitutes for those rough surfaces and offer pets an opportunity to shorten their nails just by walking on or through them, avoiding complications that can occur from overgrown nails.
EasyClean: truly easy to clean: The lower part of the Rodipet® EasyClean Ceramic House is glazed, so your rodent's urine will just flow off it. Moreover, the houses can be thoroughly cleaned by hand or in the dishwasher, giving them an extraordinarily long lifespan.
By applying glaze to the bottom part of the house, moisture cannot soak in as it would with wooden or unglazed ceramic houses. By leaving the top part unglazed, the house remains breathable, keeping the living climate inside the nest healthy.
Why is the entrance 7cm in width? A fully grown Syrian hamster (or Teddy bear hamster) with stuffed pouches can be up to 7 cm in width. If the house's entrance is too narrow, the animal has to squeeze through. During this process, grains or other carried materials may prick and injure the pouches, potentially leading to pouch abscesses. Thus, we recommend an absolute minimum of 7 cm for all entrance holes - if your hamster chooses to partly close them up with soft bedding that is alright.
Also, if a pair or a small group of gerbils call this house their home, they can slip past each other without having to fight over who can go first.
Versatile hollow: The lid features a hollow, which is perfect for offering some fresh vegetables, main food or treats
Particularly interesting: During summer, the hollow may be filled with a little water - this creates a great living climate inside even on the hottest of days. A physical phenomenon works as your pet's personal air conditioning: In order for the water to evaporate, it needs energy, the most readily available form of which is heat. To pass from liquid to gas, water will draw this heat energy from any body it touches - thus, this body (in this case the lid and hence the entire house) loses warmth and cools down.
Rodipet® EasyClean Burrow setup
When combined with a Ceramic Tube and a second Ceramic House or Burrow(not included), species-appropriate burrows can be created: in those, our pet rodents can live in a subterranean burrow made up of several tunnels and chambers, similar to what they would themselves dig in the wild. Many pets enjoy using those multiple chambers to create separate sleeping and storage rooms. If the tube is buried in a thick layer of bedding with the side entrance facing sideways, your pet can even use the EasyClean Ceramic Burrow system as the beginning of their very own home-dug bedding burrow!
